Four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler has remained relevant despite not competing for over a decade. In August 2021, the former Mr. Olympia started the Cutler Cast, and it quickly gained popularity among bodybuilding fans. In the latest episode of Cutler Cast, Jay Cutler and his co-host Manager Matt discussed the hottest debate in the NBA today, “who is the GOAT?” The debate has been reignited after James broke Kareen Abdul-Jabbar’s record. While Manager Matt gave his opinion, the bodybuilding icon revealed an interesting observation he made regarding LeBron James’s sons.

In episode #65 of the Cutler Cast, the former bodybuilding champion asked Matt to tell him who was the GOAT of basketball. “You’re going to tell me why because I know you have the answer for everything,” said the bodybuilding legend.

The bodybuilding legend once made an ironic observation

During their conversation, Cutler asked Matt to explain, “why would the majority of society right now favor Jordan over LeBron?” His co-host said there was a reason behind that. Matt said unlike MJ, LeBron talked about politics. He explained that Jordan always deftly dogged political questions. “But LeBron is very outspoken, and because of that people dislike him,” claimed Matt.

However, Cutler’s co-host also said, unlike the Lakers star, Jordan was always the central figure in his team. According to Matt, “his stats and numbers were high,” because Doug Collins built the team around Michael Jordan. On the other hand, James, without formal training, had to “carry” a team since he was 18, and has been doing it for two decades, claimed Matt.

Cutler highlighted how “people don’t wanna favor change (accept someone other than Michael Jordan as the GOAT).” In fact, he also made an interesting observation of how the views of the “majority of society” pervade sports culture. “LeBron… he has two sons right? They were wearing Jordans.” Cutler said as he let out a laugh. Even though their father has his signature sneaker line with Nike, Bronny and Bryce James chose to wear Air Jordans.

The billion-dollar Nike deal

LeBron James signed his first deal with Nike when he was 18. Back then, James signed an $87 million deal with a $10 million signing bonus. In 2016, James signed an extension with Nike. A “lifetime” deal that would earn the Lakers star $1 billion throughout his career.

Maverick Carter, who negotiated the deal on behalf of King James, spoke to GQ in 2016. “When you’re negotiating something like the Nike deal, it’s gonna last a lifetime, literally,” said Carter. However, even with shoe deals, James has some catching up to do with none other than Michael Jordan. According to a 2020 report by Forbes, Jordan has already earned well over a billion from his Nike deal.
