Deemed the CEO of gym positivity, Joey Swoll has always been upfront with the violations of gym etiquette and other issues related to bodybuilding. In his endeavor of making the gym a better place, Swoll is once again back with a stringent lesson for fitness enthusiasts. This time, Swoll called out fitness junkies who rather record themselves while working out in the gym, than maintain an organic gym culture.

Recently, the social media influencer. nutrition advisor, and former D1 runner, Angelena Minniti, shared a video of herself working out with kettle dumbbells in the gym. In the video, Minniti calls out a man who inadvertently walked past her camera by captioning her post, “the people who don’t respect you while recording gotta go”. Following this, Swoll took to his social media handle to reprimand Minniti’s behavior and reproach the filming culture that became recurrent nowadays.

On 28th March, Swoll shared the message of gym positivity and rebuked Minniti’s recent workout video. The fitness influencer stated, “The only disrespectful person in this video is you. From your attitude to the look you give to that person to the song you choose for this video, really”.

While berating Minniti for her video, Swoll further conceded, “This entitlement of filming in the gym, acting as if the world revolves around you and that everybody else has to stop what they are doing just because you are filming the video, has got to stop”. He then called out the former D1 runner for her comportment at the gym by adding, “I am sorry but you are not the owner of this gym. You don’t own it. They paid the same gym membership fees that you do”.

Swoll solicited the need for everyone to be more cognizant of other gym members. “If you can’t film responsibly if you can’t respect other people, you don’t belong filming at all that alone in the gym in the first place. You need to do better. Mind your own business”, added the bodybuilder. Nonetheless, it is not the first time that Swoll expressed his disapproval of the frequent violations of workout norms and other gym policies.

Swoll expressed dissent with the popular trend of posting workout videos on social media

Recording training videos and posting them on Instagram handles has become a trend. However, doing so sometimes hinders the privacy of someone else who is working out in the videographer’s proximity. Likewise, a couple of days ago, a man threatened his fellow gym member in the locker room for not wanting to involve in the video. The entire episode caught Swoll’s attention, and he expressed his utter disregard for it

The bodybuilder said, “This is getting ridiculous. I am going to assume that if you have money for a gym membership, if you have money for a smartphone, that you have one of these (pointing towards the bathroom and mirrors). It’s called a bathroom at home, coming equipped with a mirror where you can take as many selfies, as many videos of yourself flexing as you want with no one around. There is a reason it says all over the walls in the locker room at the gym, ‘no filming, no recording’”. He then called such activities illegal and mentioned, “Actually, if you do film somebody in a locker room, it’s illegal. The fact that you wanna threaten that man because he doesn’t want to be in your video tells me that you don’t belong in the gym. You need to do better. Mind your own business”.
