Arnold Schwarzenegger married American journalist Maria Shriver in 1986. Although his in-laws were from the Democratic party, he ended up joining the Republican party. Moreover, he stood for the 2004 Governor Recall Election from California and served as Governor for seven years. But didn’t it create problems between him and his in-laws? In an interview with Google in 2012, Schwarzenegger opened up about how supportive his mother-in-law was when they came to know about his decision.

When the interviewer asked about Teddy Kennedy’s decision to not campaign against him in the recall election, Arnold had a very interesting answer to that.

In the 2012 interview, when asked about an interesting story from his book, Total Recall, where Arnold revealed Teddy Kennedy’s stance before the 2004 election, Arnie replied with pride. He said, “Well, I think my mother-in-law would have bitten his head if he would have campaigned against me.”

The former governor of California continued, “Because she really thought the world of me and she thought it was great that I jumped into the race. And even though I was a Republican, she wrote me a cheque for $23,000, and she told me never to tell anyone because she never gave Teddy any money. I mean, he ran for senate and for President, but she gave me a big cheque.”

It doesn’t matter if you have decades of experience in bodybuilding. If you are entering a new field, you must take advice from an experienced person in it. So what was Teddy Kennedy’s advice to Arnold Schwarzenegger as he was getting into politics?

Teddy Kennedy gave a piece of golden advice to Arnold before he became the governor. Kennedy said, “Arnold, when you go into the race, never get into details.” What does that mean? Even Arnold didn’t get it in once. 

However, Kennedy explained how the media works. Arnold recalled his words and said, “Don’t even get there. Just say I will let you know early enough. They will complain that he is not giving us the details, but that’s okay, at least you didn’t trip up.”
