Steroids have been a consistent presence in many professional bodybuilders and any bodybuilding enthusiast’s life. But seldom do people come out and talk about the devastating effects it had on their bodies. But Michele Umezu, a Brazilian bodybuilder and ex-girlfriend of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Golden Shoe winner, has recently talked about all the damage she had incurred on her body after using anabolic steroids. Still a competitor in bodybuilding contests, Umezu said she was unaware of its side effects when she took it.

Michele Umezu is a bodybuilder, who, besides her fitness reasons, also came into the limelight years ago. This is in the early 2000s when she had an affair with Brazilian soccer player Ronaldo Nazario de Lima. She has a son with him. But after all these years and every other news on herself, Umezu, now 41, is concerned about her body, her well-being, and her future competition. Her experience with anabolic steroids was particularly harrowing.

Recently, Michele Umezu talked to a local media source (unknown) about her scary brush with anabolic steroids. As reported by Daily Star UK, she said, “I didn’t understand much about the subject during that period. My ex administered everything incorrectly, and I had acne, thicker body hair, hair loss, and my voice changed at the time”.

She was also frank about the effects of such steroids on her sexual drive. She continued, “In fact, there are some hormones like testosterone that increase libido, and usually women who use them have a high libido… I became insatiable”. Umezu, who is 41 years old now, was quick to analyze that such a drive wasn’t healthy at all. This is due to the fact that “testosterone is a youth hormone drug”.

While the increased libido could be confusing to many at first, the hair fall and acne are clear indicators of how devastating the effects of anabolic steroids can be.

How devastating can anabolic steroids actually be?

Given that those were the only effects she suffered from, things could’ve been way worse for Umezu with anabolic steroids. The National Institute on Drug Abuse states that anabolic steroids can cause damages that are often severe and irreparable. Although bodybuilders like Milos Sarcev have used anabolic steroids for 33 years without any harm, it can still lead to the onset of early heart attacks, strokes, liver tumors, kidney failures, etc for early or new users. Although Umezu has been through a lot, she evaded anything fatal due to it.

Currently, she is having a diet problem even after it’s meticulously portioned by her coach Arthur Pereira. Umezu only stooped using it this year, only after the Federal Council of Medicine placed a ban on such steroids. She is now enjoying her time as a bodybuilder and someone who lives by and advocates good health.
