The world of bodybuilding is often a curiosity to the outside world. People pump weights to be in the best shape and compete in various competitions. For some, it is a matter of life and death. But, Arnold Schwarzenegger believes some bodybuilders go over the top to bulk their size. According to Arnold, this can have detrimental effects on their body and sometimes can be fatal. 

 

The intake of steroids to build heavy muscle seems to be the trend for leading bodybuilders. For some, they have taken the obsession with showing off their size, which can negatively impact the athletes’ welfare. Schwarzenegger once spoke about the problems related to this in a past interview.

Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted a change!

Often, bodybuilders hit the gym, taking extraordinary weights to bulk up. He spoke about size being the principal factor for many bodybuilders. In scientific terms, we mention the obsession which leads to bulking up and building muscle as muscle dysmorphia or bigorexia. Estimates show this phenomenon affects 10% of men. Arnold spoke about the problem in the interview.

“They have taken it, in my opinion, too far. It has gotten too competitive. They’re gonna take more and more stuff that they’re not supposed to, and sometimes it kills people,” said Schwarzenegger, who believes it is the wrong way forward. As the competition intensifies, bodybuilders take much heavier weights that their bodies can’t handle. It causes a problem for many, as mentioned by Arnold.

The use of steroids can lead to physical problems like testicular atrophy, infertility, and heart attacks, according to various research. The intake of drugs can massively pressure the bones and tendons, proving why lifting weights should be in check. 

A wonderful sport

Despite all the problems leading to steroid use, Arnold believes bodybuilding truly appreciates a person’s physical stature. For years, these bodybuilders lift weights while carving out the best shape possible.

While performed safely, bodybuilding can assist positive effects like building muscle, burning fat, strengthening bones and joints, reducing injuries, and improving one’s heart condition. With these effects in mind, it is a sport that offers a lot more positives than negatives. Finding balance remains the key, and Arnold’s tip to success makes sense!
