“Start to Look Like Sh**”: Just Like Ronnie Coleman, 6x Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates Also Pushed Training Too Far Claimed Samir Bannout Once

Bodybuilding is a sport that doesn’t have a limit in training. It depends on every individual how much weight they want to lift. How many reps do they want to put in? Some bodybuilders push their limits by calculating risks, whereas others push limits as much as they can. Dorian Yates and Ronnie Coleman come into the latter category.

The six times Mr. Olympia title holder Dorian Yates had some injuries later in his life due to his limitless training regimen. In a recent YouTube video, veteran bodybuilder Samir Bannout sounded a bit frustrated over Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates’ bodybuilding style. Bannout revealed he gets disturbed when he sees the deteriorating health of these legends.

Dorian Yates’ style made him pay the consequences

Dorian Yates won six consecutive titles from 1992 to 1997 until Ronnie Coleman broke his six-year streak in 1998. Yates was known for his hard training and going limitless into his capabilities. However, Samir Bannout criticized the way Dorian trained as it caused him various injuries. John Hansen commented“Dorian’s training style was going beyond failure, and that’s when sh** starts to tear.”

Whereas Samir Bannout said, “He (Dorian) has a couple of bad injuries. He’s torn both biceps and both triceps. Because also Dorian was a warrior and he was always going extreme heavy. So, that’s the consequences…”

He added, “Year after year after year, he won Olympia six times. Then, every contest prep he’s got that mentality, ‘I want to be better! I want to be better!’ So he pushed himself to the limit. If you drive your car for ten years it’s going to start to look like sh**.”

Even Yates agrees that he trained too hard

Dorian Yates is aware of the mistakes he has committed in the past. He agrees that he trained too hard. He revealed that if he could change something from his past, he would like to change the way he trained. Yates would have liked to train a bit smarter and enjoy the process of bodybuilding a bit more. 

There is no doubt Dorian Yates is one of the greatest bodybuilders. The six Mr. Olympia titles are proof of his legacy. However, a bit more awareness and holding back the limits could have held him back from the injuries he had.

Samir Bannout’s frustration doesn’t seem unjustified. It is difficult for one to see the strongest men on the earth struggling with several injuries and pain.
