Social media influencer and 25x world record powerlifter, Dr. Stef Cohen, has once again shared a post to demystify a common myth about bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is a sport of muscle size, muscle definition and condition, and symmetry. But now, when it comes to symmetry, even outside bodybuilding, people are often told about their asymmetric physiques and the ways to make them symmetric. This is exactly what Cohen has posted about.

Stef Cohen shared a post by Ben Yanes, who teaches about the anatomy of lifting. Yanes busted the myth about symmetry with his post about how a body cannot be symmetric no matter what you do.

Why is achieving complete symmetry not possible?

Stef Cohen has been busting some old myths and the wrong practices people do regularly through her Instagram. Recently, she also debunked a myth about diet and weight loss by depicting her own story as an example. However, this time she took a post of an anatomy expert and posted it on her Instagram story. In the post, Yanes wrote, “Your right and left are not (BY DESIGN) the same. Stop trying to make your right and left sides feel the same. You are asymmetrical. There is no such thing as ‘being balanced’…”

Moreover, in the other slides of his post, he explained why it isn’t possible to have a balance. Other than that, he also suggested ways to tackle anyone who makes you believe that being asymmetrical is abnormal.

According to him, both sides of the body were never meant to be similar. He captioned the post, “our left and right halves have never been the same, will never be the same, and certainly won’t ever feel the same as a consequence. That’s not a bad thing, that’s just an inherent part of being an organism that can walk and jump and run.”

Further, he clarified that he doesn’t mean there is nothing like “neural deficits”, but he believes that assumptions must not be made before knowing why things are as they are.
