Lou Ferrigno is one of the biggest bodybuilders in the history of the sport. The 6’5″ tall bodybuilder may not have achieved massive success in his bodybuilding career. But he is still considered one of the greatest to compete in the sport. The 1977 docudrama, Pumping Iron, reveals his excellence and also turned out to be the turning point of his life.

In 1977, after Pumping Iron, Ferrigno got cast as The Hulk, in the superhit television series ‘The Incredible Hulk’. It changed Ferrigno’s financial condition as well as made him an extremely popular household name in America. Ferrigno’s wife once revealed in an interview about the rush she saw in her wedding due to Lou’s massive fan following in 1980.

Marrying an extremely popular public figure comes at a cost. Lou Ferrigno was at the peak of his career when he got married to Carla Green in 1980. Carla Ferrigno was a manager at a restaurant when she first met Lou. And she was Lou’s manager after marriage for some years. However, when it comes to their wedding, was one of the most exclusive weddings of those times. 

Ferrigno and Carla married with limited guests at their wedding, keeping it a very personal affair. When asked about their wedding day, Carla said, “I do the wedding, I got my own dress and I set up the whole event. I was the producer of the whole wedding. We had 50 people, I didn’t want a lot of people there. It was just our family.”

She continued, “Bill Bixby came, Joe and Betty Weider, people that were close to us, and The Inquirer came and wanted to do the story and we have an exclusive rights to it and they held off the helicopters that were going and people were trying to get in. I mean, he was in the second year-third year. The Hulk by then and people love him and he was at the height of his fame so they were beating down the walls to get into our wedding, which was, it was okay.”

How did Lou Ferrigno and Carla Green meet for the first time?

Carla Green is the second wife of Lou Ferrigno. Ferrigno got married in 1978 for the first time to Susan Groff. However, the relationship didn’t last long, and they separated a year after. It was then that Lou met Carla. Even though they didn’t have a romantic beginning, they do have a romantic life together. 

In 2009, Carla revealed, “I looked at him and said, ‘How big are you?’ He said, ‘Big enough.’ I couldn’t resist.” But when the story went further, Green found Lou too sweet to be not his future husband. And they eventually married on 3rd May 1980.

Lou Ferrigno had a massive fan following in the late 70s and further. And the craze in people to be part of his wedding is proof of that. However, they had a wonderful and exclusive wedding and have completed 42 years of marriage this year.
