“They Would Send Me To”: Arnold Schwarzenegger Turned His Army Punishment Into a Bodybuilding Resource

The 75-year-old bodybuilder maintains an active and healthy lifestyle. Yet, many people have remained curious about how remains physically fit at this age. Arnold, however, has taken advantage of every opportunity he has been given, even if it was a punishment. During one of his interviews, the bodybuilder explained how he used Army punishment to his advantage.
The seven-time Mr. Olympia title winner has repeatedly disclosed his workout regimen and diet plan.

From punishment to the benefit ‘brilliant idea of Arnold’
Arnold was introduced to the local gym by his soccer coach in the early stages of his bodybuilding career. But, first, he marked a golden milestone in his career with the title of Junior Mr. Europe in 1965. Nevertheless, there is an interesting story that occurred during the early stages of his career.

He served in the military before receiving the title of Mr. Europe. As a result of the high level of security, he was not permitted to leave the military base. Despite this, Arnold snuck out of the base when the opportunity arose. This thing landed him in jail as a punishment. Schwarzenegger revealed this during an interview with the Daily News. In his narrative, he explained how the punishment of peeling potatoes provided him with nutrition.
Arnold said, “They were very supportive of all of those kind of things. They would send me to the kitchen to peel potatoes, which was supposed to be a punishment, but in reality it was their way of saying, ‘You can eat all the meat and all the protein for hours while you’re there while you’re peeling the potatoes.’ It was the first time that I had meat every day.” He never left an opportunity to craft his way to the seven Mr. Olympia titles.
How Arnold Schwarzenegger ended up in the jail

He snuck out of the military base at night since he was not allowed to leave the base without permission. In addition, the bodybuilder asked his friend to assist him in picking him up from the base. He told Daily News, “You weren’t allowed to leave during basic training, so I basically just snuck out at night and let a friend pick me up with the car,”
Adding further, he said, “I won the European Junior Championship competition, and by the time I got back, word got around that I won. They did not know what to do with me, so they put me in jail for two, three days. Then they felt uncomfortable about that, and then they finally let me out.” After going through all the struggles, now in the modern era, he ranks among the world’s greatest bodybuilders.
