Ronnie Coleman is one of the greatest professional bodybuilders we know. He has clinched the Mr. Olympia title eight consecutive times (1998-2005). However, Ronnie worked as a police officer since 1989 and continued to work until 2003. Even though he won Mr. Olympia titles in a row, he didn’t leave his job and balanced both careers together.
Recently, in the Joe Rogan podcast, Ronnie made a big revelation. He confessed he never wanted to become a bodybuilder. Then why did he compete for the Mr. Olympia title?

When did Ronnie Coleman become serious about it?
Ronnie Coleman used to train his physique a long time back. But he didn’t think of becoming a professional bodybuilder. Joe Rogan asked Ronnie, “So competing was about free membership at one point in time. When did it become serious?” Ronnie replied, “When I won my first Olympia 98.”
That’s some serious revelation. The man who never thought of becoming a professional bodybuilder ended up winning eight Mr. Olympia titles. Joe Rogan said in astonishment, “Do you know how many bodybuilders right now want to jump out of a building? They are gonna go right to the top floor and fu*** leap out of a window.”

Bodybuilding was never there in his plans. He was pretty satisfied with his Police officer’s job and loved the extra perks he received from the department. But fate brought him to the biggest stage, and he took it seriously from there to become one of the best in the world.
What was Ronnie’s actual dream?

If not professional bodybuilding, what was Ronnie Coleman’s actual dream? Ronnie opened up about this in the podcast itself. He said, “Yeah, but see my dream was always to be a professional football player. So I played football in junior high, high school, college and all that kind of stuff.”
Ronnie Coleman further added, “And we are not even drafted. I like, okay. I got a degree so I can get a good job; you know, with an accounting degree. And I graduated in Hons. and all that kind of stuff and I figured I’d just be an accountant and make good money there. So I never had no dream aspirations being a bodybuilder.”

Joe Rogan got amazed when he came to know about Ronnie’s revelation. Ronnie had his fate waiting for him. He just had to realize it and start working towards it. Fortunately, he did both. And when he did, he trained with all his heart towards it and the rest is history.
