Parenting is a whole other art of responsibility that every individual deal with in their own way. There are thousands of books written to spread knowledge and tips to become better at it. Although it can be influenced, but cannot be taught. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver raised four children together before separating in 2011. And they seem to master this art amazingly well. The Twilight fame Taylor Lautner recently spoke with Maria Shriver and Patrick Schwarzenegger in his podcast The Squeeze. However, before starting the interview, Lautner and his wife had a bunch of compliments for the Schwarzenegger family, especially they brought up their children.

It wasn’t just about giving love and fulfilling their wishes. Taylor was astonished to see the balance the former couple has provided their family with throughout their highs and lows. Here’s what he said.

The former couple excelled in the art of parenting

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were married for a quarter of a century. However, they aren’t together now, but they kept the family bond intact, whether it was before or after the separation. Taylor Lautner, who has been friends with Patrick for more than a decade now, is well known with the Schwarzenegger family and the way they share a bond, despite having their own busy lives. And Lautner gave immense credit to the parenting of Arnold and Maria.

While describing the Schwarzenegger family in the video, Lautner exclaimed, “Maria and Arnold raised kids that are just not real. It’s like what? They still make kids like this today?” But how do these offspring of the two famous personalities fall in so right places? Well, their daughter Katherine has mentioned a couple of times the strict rules and boundaries that were set by their parents during their teens. As Taylor’s wife brought up this topic, Taylor had a couple of things to say about it.

Taylor said, “But a lot of the times you have like, you know, people think of strict parents, you also think like scared of your parents, or you know, very very strict parents you think like in a very parent-kid relationship. These people, they just, it blows my mind the relationship that they have. Yes, they were strict, yes they had their roles, and they did those for very good reasons. You know, Arnold has done a movie or two, so, you know, raising kids, being one of the biggest movie stars, Governor. Maria coming from her family. They knew, you know, wanted to implement these things into their kids, but they also like best friends too.”

As the podcast proceeded, Maria Shriver also opened up about their mindset while raising their kids. She also disclosed that she had some particular expectations from the boys as per the values they taught them.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were proactive when it came to strengthening the mental health of their kids. Even when it wasn’t talked much about, the former couple had it in their minds for their kids. In the podcast, as they talked about parenting, they flirted with a couple of aspects of it. Schwarzenegger and Maria were determined to bring up their kids with the right values and gave them the space and teachings to open up despite being strict with them. As they said, it’s all about balance. 

 At the same time, Maria had some special teachings and expectations from her boys. She explained, “Patrick’s dad and I raised the kids in a really private way, and I always really encourage them to talk. I really wanted boys who were empathetic and who felt that they could talk about their feelings.” 

There is no thumb rule when it comes to parenting. It is a combination of thousands of things done together to create a person of values and love. If talking about the Schwarzenegger family, their ways have worked pretty smoothly. Although the parents aren’t together, the family gets together on occasion and cherishes their bond. As parents, they do not miss any chance to speak out about how much they are proud of their kids and vice versa.
