“Don’t Think I Can Do This Without Crying”: Eating 6100 Calories in a Day, Superstar Jonathan Majors Narrates the “Hardest” 4 Months of His Life

How far can one go for a role in a movie? There are stories of how actors get to the root of the character and prepare for months’ end in advance just to make the character more compelling. Physically, actors also work out and often go through drastic changes. A testament to this is actor Jonathan Majors, who put himself through extreme physical and mental training for a movie.

In an interview with Deadline, Majors sat down to talk about his new film Magazine Dreams, where he plays the role of a bodybuilder. The movie was both physically and mentally exhausting. In a candid chat, the actor revealed what was the hardest part was while training to be cast as a bodybuilder.

Bodybuilders always have it tough when it comes to working out. It is usually an amped up version of a regular gym day stretched over decades, where one has to challenge their physical boundaries at every opportunity. Majors went head-first into this journey when he trained his mind and body for Magazine Dreams. In an interview with Variety, he mentioned how his calorie intake stood at a humongous 6100 calories each day.

With his huge diet set aside, Majors’s challenges didn’t end there. Since the actor played the role of a bodybuilder with a tough backstory, there were physical and mental challenges. However, the actor maintained that bodybuilding was the hardest challenge he had taken up. And it wasn’t because of the heavy lifting or exhaustion.

Majors described how training to become a bodybuilder soon got personal for him. Finding parallels with his realities, the process led him to rethink about his personal issues and challenges which was emotionally draining. As reported by  Deadline, he recalled talking to director Elijah Bynum, sayingI just don’t think I can do this without crying. I can’t open my mouth as this guy and not wanna break.”

Ultimately, Majors managed to pull off the training and build a body akin to a bodybuilder. While the journey was tough, the actor is popular for pulling off stunts like this. Recently, it’s being speculated that Majors might dress up as a bride for a movie on the NBA legend Dennis Rodman. Whether it’s a bridal getup or a bodybuilding sensation, Majors is growing to become a promising Hollywood superstar.
