Magnus Carlsen Compares Christian Pulisic to LeBron James in Preparations for Their Match

The matchup between Magnus Carlsen and Christian Pulisic was an interesting one. The grandmaster had a charity match against the Chelsea soccer player. The soccer superstar faced the 10-year-old app version of the reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen. Hence, it became a sensational matchup between two players from different fields. For each move he made, Puma donated $500 for UNICEF. The Chelsea star lasted 25 moves in the match.

Before the matchup, Carlsen compared him to LeBron James of soccer in an interesting takeup. As for Pulisic, he tried hard to defeat 10-YO Carlsen.

Magnus Carlsen compliments Christian Pulisic

Being compared to James is just incredible for Pulisic. LeBron is having one of the best seasons in his career racking up points for the Los Angeles Lakers. He is playing at a high level and Carlsen compared the American soccer player to the legendary King James. Although he ran out of time to bring home a victory, Pulisic put in a valiant effort but ran short of time. Carlsen mentioned on twitter:

“The LeBron James of soccer putting in a valid effort in the Charity Cup! Time and equipment getting in the way of an upset.”

From his game analysis, Three-time British champ David Howell gave credit to Pulisic for coming of age and playing good moves in the competition.

“He’s stopping every single threat that Magnus is creating. Black’s pushing pawns, white’s blocking them. Christian’s got a great position I’ve got to say. If he had five minutes I would bank on Christian here, to be honest. I think this is one of the best games we’ve seen from anyone challenging Play Magnus, Magnus aged 10. It’s better than I did, I’ve got to admit, but it’s just the time,” said Howell.

Likewise, Pulisic will auction his signed Premier League Puma boots to raise money for UNICEF. The event is held by Charity Cup due to the European crisis as a part of humanitarian works. Hence, it is a great initiative from the soccer player.
