Russia Faces Another Setback in Figure Skating as ISU Takes a Major Decision Against the Nation

The problems in the world of sports do not appear to be over for Russia and Belarus. In the light of the ongoing European crisis, every major international sporting organization has already suspended the Russian and Belarusian athletes. Moreover, the country is now being stripped of the hosting rights for a prominent figure skating event as well.
The conflict took away their participation in the Beijing Paralympics. Furthermore, the Russian and Belarusian athletes were also not allowed to take part in the World Championships in France. The athletes are witnessing a complete boycott in almost every major sport.

Russia loses hosting rights for the Grand Prix figure skating series
The latest suspension that the country has received is in the world of figure skating. Due to the Russia and Ukraine conflict, the Russians have now lost the hosting rights for the upcoming Grand Prix figure skating series. Rostelecom Cup is one of the most prominent events of the Grand Prix series, and it will not take place in Russia for this season.

The International Skating Union Council has released a statement extending its ban on the country until further notice. ISU further made it clear that Russia will not be hosting any figure skating events until next fall. However, the alternate venue for the event hasn’t been chosen yet, and the applications for the same are still under scrutiny.

Yuzuru Hanyu failing at his Olympic dream was perhaps the saddest moment of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. Though he couldn’t win his third consecutive Olympic gold, the legend gave everything. In the finals of the men’s short program event, he performed with an injured ankle after taking pain killer injections.
Yuzuru missed the World Figure Skating Championship due to the same Olympic injury. However, finally, he has announced his comeback. The legend will be a part of the Fantasy on the Ice Japanese tour starting on 27th May.
