Simone Biles garnered a lot of attention with her decision to withdraw from the Olympics. People were divided over her approach to prioritizing mental health, some even called it a media stunt. The gymnast was the subject of hate in the early days following the decision, but the athletic community soon came to her rescue. They were outspoken and rallied people to understand the pressure Biles and other athletes go through daily.

Rousey backed Simone Biles’ decision

It was a case of Simone Biles against the world after her withdrawal decision during the Tokyo Olympics. Against the public, Biles weathered the storm of hatred alone. But much like the Avengers assembled in their final fight against Thanos, the sporting world came to gymnastics superstar defense.

A prominent name in the people who backed Simone over her decision was Ronda Rousey. She did not care for her words and went all out against the people questioning Biles. In a tweet, Ronda wrote, “Everyone judging @Simone_Biles doesn’t know their foot from their a**hole when it comes to being in her position. She’s on the Olympic team while you’re on Twitter. Whatever is going on cannot be grasped from the outside. She’s doing the absolute best she can, given the situation she’s in.”

Rousey is one of those people who never back away from a confrontation. They take a stand for what they feel is the right thing, no matter the consequence. In an example of the same, she once called out GOAT swimmer Michael Phelps over his behavior after the Beijing Olympics.

Rousey and Phelps were teammates at the 2008 Olympics, where she became the first American woman to win a medal in Judo. During an interview, she revealed while they were at a party for the American Olympians, everyone mingled with everyone, except for Michael Phelps. He stood in one corner, which was only for his group. “These NBA players are a bigger deal than this guy, and they’re hanging out with us. We’re teammates. We’re not a bunch of groupies. Come hang out with us,” said Ronda.
