Shortly After Simone Biles, Fred Richard Announces Winter Cup Exit

164 days until the Paris Olympics 2024 rolls in. The gymnastic virtuoso Simone Biles, who had a stellar 2023 comeback season with back-to-back wins, just concluded the Biles Invitational. But soon after, her absence from the Winter Cup 2024 list left her fans concerned. On February 23-25, 2024, gymnasts will be back with their power displays on the mat. But after the Biles news surfaced from the US Gymnastics Championships qualifying event, the 2023 World Championships all-around bronze medalist Fred Richard, also withdrew himself.

The 2020 and 2021 Junior Pan American Champion made big waves in 2023, but his promising journey took off in the 2022-23 season when he registered with the Michigan Wolverines. Since he started taking gymnastics and TikTok to new heights, he garnered love and fame from fans alike. But his current withdrawal made fans speculate. Is he at the mouth of injuries?

Fred Richard’s rule out after Simone Biles invites questions

In an X post of USA Gymnastics, the caption reads, #WinterCup Update: @FrederickFlips has withdrawn from the Senior Men’s Competition”. The sole reason behind this can be that the athletes are mindfully keeping themselves off certain events to focus more on their preferred ones, most importantly the Olympics.

Another X post of Gymnastics Now reads, “Richard told us he’s all good, just not in top form due to minor injuries, and he wants to be ready for the postseason and Olympics. He’s still expected to compete this weekend for Michigan”. With the NCAA Championships looming, the contention is upping bit by bit.

But the DTB Pokal Team Challenge winner has nothing but hope lingering in his heart. With her gymnastic comrade Gabby Douglas making a comeback this season, Simone Biles has been busy in juggling gymnastics and personal life. Besides her, even Leanne Wong and Jade Carey, the stellar collegiate gymnasts, are currently focused on the meet season.

Shilese Jones, who has been toe-to-toe with Biles in the 2023 season, is also nowhere to be seen in the list. At the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, the event will start on February 23 and continue till the 25th. USA Gymnastics YouTube channel will televise the event.
