The New York Yankees will be looking at 2022 as a season to build. While their wild-card loss to the Red Sox will sting them so far, they will look at leaving that behind as soon as possible. The New York Yankees are preparing for the future with a gusto. Apart from the pursuit of a star shortstop this off-season, the Yankees are looking at young prospects too. They have looked at superstar signings like Carlos Correa and Trevor Story but have also considered their alternatives.

Reportedly, Suarez will be making $50,000 as a signing bonus and has quite the speed attributes. Notably, he is not too shabby defensively, either. And while Yankees fans may be clamoring for a signing at shortstop, seeing Suarez in pinstripes may still be a little way off.
Options at shortstop
The New York Yankees have several possible options to undertake on the diamond. They can choose to go for a superstar signing like Carlos Correa or Trevor Story. However, this would mean a significant commitment in terms of money. Further, it could hamper the Yankees’ pursuit of present superstars like Aaron Judge on larger contracts.

This would, however, provide them with the necessary skill they require and could go a long way in reinforcing their title bid.
The alternative to these is the signing of a stopgap shortstop to allow their prospects from the farm to develop. Prospects like Anthony Volpe and Oswaldo Perez have shown strong promise and likely could be ready by the 2023 season. This could mean signing Oakland players like Matt Olson or Matt Chapman to play out of their original position for a season.
