Now that the Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Freddie Freeman, Carlos Correa remains probably the only top free agent in the MLB market. Even after one week of the free agency, Correa is yet to sign his new contract.
However, the Houston Astros manager, Dusky Baker, has found a possible replacement of the free agency shortstop Carlos Correa. Notably, if the Astros fail to bring Correa, then it’s better to have a substitute for the same position.

And if the Astros manage to re-sign Correa, then it will be a cherry on the top for them. However, there is nothing official regarding Correa’s new contract.

Notably, with Correa still a free agent, and the regular season just a few weeks away, the Astros cannot rely on Correa’s deal. And considering this, Jeremy Pena is now the frontrunner of the shortstop position for the team. Well, that’s what the Astro manager said.
Dusty Baker called Jeremy Peña the “front runner” to be the Astros shortstop this season. He will get the majority of the reps in Grapefruit League play.

According to MLB.com, Baker said, “He’s the front-runner for the job.” While Pena, who considered Correa as a mentor, doesn’t look at himself as Correa’s replacement. Pena said that he doesn’t need to fill anyone else’s shoes.

“I never look it as ‘I’m replacing Carlos Correa,” said Jeremy Pena. “Carlos Correa is a great ballplayer. He’s done great things in Houston, but I’m Jeremy Peña. I want to play my game. I don’t need to fill anyone else’s shoes.”
