Carlos Correa signing for the Minnesota Twins has to be the most shocking deal in the past few years. For a player like Correa, who is in his prime, and has played for a top team like Houston Astros, no one sensed him going to the Twins. But that’s the reality now.

Even during the lockout and then the free agency, everyone speculated Correa to either extend his stay at the Astros or, sign for a top team like the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs. But the star shortstop surprised the baseball world with his move to the Twins. It was that surprising that even a Twins executive couldn’t believe that Correa will be playing for the Twins.

From being nowhere close to getting Correa, a 14-hours of negotiation, two late-night pizzas, and a zoom call landed baseball’s best shortstop at the Minnesota Twins.

As every baseball fan, the Twins vice president of communications and content, Dustin Morse, revealed that he also couldn’t believe Correa coming to the Twins. According to The Athletic, Morse said that he has never seen anything like it. Because a free agent who is in his prime would not prefer to go to the Twins. Morse also said that after Correa’s deal, he felt an immediate impact on the organization.

“We are blessed with some really amazing legends,” Morse said. “(But an) in their prime, free-agent signing to come to Minnesota and really be the big name on the board, I’ve never seen anything like it. Never felt anything like it. We felt an immediate impact in our entire organization that morning.”

Morse himself didn’t know about the deal until he woke up in the morning. After Correa’s deal, the Twins sold 60,000 tickets in just four days. Such was the impact of his signing.

Before signing for the Twins, Correa was heavily linked with the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees. But he ended up signing for the Minnesota Twins on a three-year deal worth $105.3 million. The deal also includes an opt-out in the first two years of his contract.
