With spring training well and truly underway, the New York Yankees finally seem to have something to look forward to. The 2022 season. And one of their star hitters in Joey Gallo certainly seems to be ready to take on the challenge headfirst as he plunges into 2022. Speaking at a media engagement at Spring Training, Gallo addressed the fans and players around the league about his preparation and how he thinks this season will go.

Joey Gallo switched to the New York Yankees amid season trade last season. Joining forces with the pinstripes mid-way through the season, obviously meant that he had lesser time to settle into life in the Big Apple. Considering his switch from the Texas Rangers, Gallo never really hit the heady heights that fans had expected him to reach n 2021. However, he seems well excited for the upcoming season as he spoke with other members of the media.

Joey Gallo – Ready for 2022?

Part of a shortened spring training in Florida, Gallo seemed fairly excited to get things going. Said Gallo, “It’s been a good one. I wish we had more time.” And even though that seems to be a complaint fairly common across all players; the lockout delays are not something that can be changed at the moment.

Gallo however, appreciated every bit of time he was able to get with his teammates. “It’s kinda nice to get to know more of the guys. During the season you know you’re in the heat of a pennant race so it’s more serious,” said Gallo. “You know it’s nice to kinda kick it with the guys and be more laid back so it’s been a good start”

Speaking about the upcoming season though, Gallo seemed eager to get it going; and considering that the organization too will have had more time with him, it could well be a more productive season. Adding to it, Gallo said, “I’m a unique player, not in a good way or a bad way. I’ve just been a swing and miss kind of guy, walk a lot and I slug. I’m not a real high contact guy so I just have to go out there and kinda play my game.”
