The 2022 free-agent class is chock full of quality in Major League Baseball. And even though signings around the league are currently on hold amidst the lockout, Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves may be headed away from his Atlanta Braves once the lockout ends. After having won the pennant with the team in 2021, could it be the right time for a switch?

Freddie Freeman currently occupies 1st base at Truist Park but turns a free agent this off-season. After the renewal talks between him and the franchise had ended without agreement last season, Freeman may well be in search of a new challenge. And reportedly, he is drawing closer and closer to that prospect.

With several prospects across the league looking for a Freeman-esque signing, he could be looking at maximizing his value. At 32, it is also unlikely that Freeman will have too many options to test out his free agency beyond this season; and while not necessarily a spent force, his current contract could well be Freeman’s final engagement in the sport.

Where could he go?

Playing at first base, Freeman has picked up quite the resume. And with teams like the New York Yankees and the LA Dodgers all looking for a short-term signing to reinforce their batting, they could well see Freeman as the ideal signing.

The first baseman adds to the roster both offensively and defensively. A resolute presence on 1st base, Freeman also brings variety to the batting line-up where he hits left-handed and can power a few pitches past the boundary wall.

Freeman is rife for a switch from his Braves; having spent 12 years in the city and delivered 5 All-Star seasons to go with it. He led the franchise to their first title in 24 years in 2021 and has achieved all that he can with the franchise. If he does decide to stay, it will probably be out of sentimentality; but surely no Braves fans can fault him if he moves base for a bumper contract.
