Stanton played a part in the Yankees’ thrilling 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day, contributing a homer at the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3 at that point. However, he played a bigger role in their second match on Saturday. Driving home a 2 runner play in the sixth inning to set up a 4-2 win against the Red Sox.

While his slugging effort came in a winning cause for the team, he also had some personal milestones checked with it.

Stanton became the first to notch six consecutive games with a logged home run against the Red Sox pitching staff. Continuing his streak from the 2021 season, including the unfortunate AL Wild Card game loss to their opposing team, Stanton broke Mickey Mantle’s 1954 season record of 5 with the hit.

Stanton seemed fairly comfortable with the record, though. When informed he had broken it, he commented quite nonchalantly. “I can’t say it’s the rivalry or anything. I’m doing my homework and getting the ball over the plate,” he said.
