The New York Mets have undertaken a colossal project. To be on the winning side right away. And to the amazement of the world of Major League Baseball, they actually seem to build a functional and well-oiled roster to challenge. With several signings prior to the lockout and a rejig of their coaching staff, the Mets look to be well prepared for the 2022 season. However, this building process comes with a financial budget. With the owner, Steve Cohen, showing readiness to spend in the off-season, the Mets may not be done with it as yet.
The Mets are putting up changes across their roster and with their eyes set on a World Series. It doesn’t look like they will be leaving any stone unturned to achieve their goal.

The New York Mets are a side that has perennially underperformed. Even more when you compare them to their neighbors across the borough in the Bronx. But the Mets would want to shed as much of that baggage going into the 2022 season.
New York Mets Not Done in Assembling Star-Studded Pitcher Rotation
With the addition of pitching depth with the signing of Max Scherzer and the hiring of some stunning personnel in their coaching staff, the Mets look ready to challenge. Specifically, adding Eric Chavez to improve their hitting and the calm statesman in Buck Showalter will probably do the Mets a world of good.
High Payroll for the New York Mets
The New York Mets have already acted and featured heavily in the off-season. Signing several strong roster members like Marte, Canha, and Escobar to high value multi-year deals and also ensuring star power. The signing of Mark Scherzer was a true statement. The 3-time Cy Young Award winner will look to go for his 4th and has chosen the Citi Field as his chosen battleground. And yet the true challenge lies in keeping the harmony between so many new acquisitions.

It is at this juncture, Buck Showalter steps in. With his calm and generally composed demeanor in the dugout, the Mets can definitely hope for some positive effects. Even so, the acquisitions will come at a cost, whereby Steve Cohen seems ready to foot the bill. The Mets reportedly are also looking at adding some more pitching depth this year too.

With the Mets already having made several moves this season, they are staring at a significant payroll figure. With some sources stating that new investment can also be expected, the payroll to start the 2022 season could be as high as $300 million.
Have heard Mets might consider signing another significant pitcher and hitter once the lockout ends, on top of Scherzer, Marte, Canha and Escobar. If so $270M payroll could approach $300M.

All we hope is that we get some solid games from the Mets this year. With deGrom and Scherzer on the mound that is some fire-power, but even offensively, with the addition of coach Chavez to the squad, out-of-form hitters like Lindor will be expected to make an impact.
