As the NFL gets ready for the coveted Rose Bowl, the Barstool Sports owner has placed a huge bet on the Michigan Wolverines, not commensurate with whether they will win or not, calling it the ‘biggest bet’ of his life. This resounding move comes amid his 5-game losing streak in the NFL and is an awfully large gamble.

With only 5 days for the mega clash now, Portnoy is confident on the No.1 ranked team. He has repeatedly expressed his confidence in the team through catchy social media posts. But as he tried to depict Michigan’s dominance via a caricature ish King Kong vs Godzilla meme and his tweet has left fans divided.

In the latest tweet, Dave Portnoy took help from the King Kong vs Godzilla debate to express confidence in his ‘biggest bet’. Portnoy likened Michigan Wolverines to the giant Godzilla while comparing the Alabama Crimson Tide to the King Kong. “5 days”, he noted posting the meme as Godzilla and King Kong held the caps of respective teams. Michigan and Tide will face off in California on 1st January, and so was Portnoy’s meme written at the lower end.

Earlier, Portnoy revealed that he was on a 5-game losing spree in the NFL. But despite this, he is resolute in his stance and decided to bet a whopping $1 million on Michigan for Tuesday’s Rose Bowl clash. “Every bet I lose builds my confidence”, the self-styled ‘El-Presidente’ explained later. As he tries to uphold the Michigan spirit with the Godzilla take, social media has witnessed a stir, garnering mixed reactions from NFL enthusiasts.

Fans divided on Portnoy’s Rose Bowl take

Michigan Wolverines will in no way enter as the favorites on January 1st, but they are equally capable of taking the Tide head on. As Portnoy keeps hailing Michigan as a favorite, fans are finding it hard to agree with him. “Bama 31. Michigan 17. You’re welcome”, a fan commented under his King Kong vs Godzilla meme.

By using the Godzilla reference, Portnoy might have made a mistake. “I’m just letting you know that King Kong is the one who walks away into the sunset in this film and not Godzilla,” a fan reminded Portnoy.

Interestingly, Michigan hasn’t won a National Championship since 1948. But along with Portnoy, several others are betting heavily on the Wolverines to bring it home this time. “God I hope Michigan can pull this off. I am licking my chops as a UW fan”, a hardcore Michiganian echoed his plea.

However, Tide is on a good run as well, fully capable of turning the waters on Portnoy’s $1 million. “We know how this is going to end, bet accordingly”, a fan warned.

Only time will tell whether Portnoy made the right bet or not.
