While talking about hockey legends, taking the name of Gino Odjick is almost imperative. Odjick was a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger for the Vancouver Canucks. In his celebrated career, he played for more than a decade for the team, from 1990 to 2002. Unfortunately, the news of his sad demise has left all hockey fans devastated.

The Vancouver Canucks paid a very special tribute to their hero on their Facebook page, and the post got several heartfelt comments.

The Vancouver Canucks shared a photo of three of their players wearing the very same jersey that was worn by the legend who passed away. Odjick wore the jersey called ‘The Skate’ for seven long years. It was the third official jersey of the Vancouver Canucks.

Fans became emotional as they relived the memories through the photo. One follower commented, “Always loved the flying skate. Brings back memories. I had my Odjick t shirt back then. Loved him.”

One fan wrote, “Probably the best Canucks jersey” Another said, “Please , for all is fans….bring this back as the full time jersey!!” Seems like the jersey was a fan favorite. But more than that, it was reminiscent of Gino Odjick, the NHL superstar.

Looking Back on the Maniwaki Mauler

Odjick was one of the most feared players on the ice, and he had more than 100 fights in his NHL career. In addition to being a fearsome player, he was also an adept scorer. He scored 16 goals in the season from 1993 to 1994. That was the same year the Vancouver Canucks went to the finals of the Stanley Cup.

Of the 64 goals throughout his career, 13 were the goals that won the team that game. Odjick’s popularity was, however, not only based on his fights in the rink. He was a player who brought his 100% to every game. The Vancouver Canucks, the National Hockey League, and the world definitely lost a gem.
