Mikaela Shiffrin has had a good run at the 23-24 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup adorning 7 wins and even more podium finishes so far. As she trod through the journey, hopping slopes and nations each week, the 3-time Olympic medalist did so with her teammates by her side. So even when the slalom queen lay injured and out of the tracks, she ensured to reciprocate the cheer.

Through wins and through feats, Mikaela Shiffrin has often ensured to send her love and celebrate the presence of her teammates. “It’s all ok ladies, surface is money, you got this!” were Shiffrin’s words post-injury. Now following the encouragement, the Olympian has more emotions to bear watching fellow her USA skier attain a milestone.

On the 26th of January, Shiffrin lost control during her Downhill race to land in the surrounding nets. A quick airlift to the nearby hospital altered Mikaela on a left leg injury and a necessity to stay off the tracks. Today, as she followed along the orders, the 28-year-old had a moment of joy despite the inconvenience her situation offered when Jacqueline Wiles climbed the Downhill podium. “Bada*s Baller @jacquelinewiles – this one is emotional,” Shiffrin wrote on her Instagram stories as she watched the fellow teammate lift hands in victory and triumph.

Shiffrin is no stranger to celebrating her friends. “The most inspiring and emotional moment of the weekend right here”, Mikaela had written last month when her teammate Alice Merryweather had overcome a long stretch of a rough patch. Today was no different. Because a podium finish for Jacqueline Wiles today wasn’t short of overcoming a grueling and uncertain path.

An emotional triumph for Jacqueline Wiles

Jacqueline Wiles had a late start going at number 26 on Saturday’s Downhill race. Despite the odds, the 31-year-old, 2-time Olympian put up a time of 1:33.85, to place 0.35 seconds behind the winner. The victory came as an emotional one for Wiles and those all around, for it was the Olympian’s first World Cup podium in six years. “This is absolutely insane,” Wiles told Swiss broadcaster SRF. “It’s been a long time coming of injuries the last five, six years, so to be able to come here with confidence and put a run down that I was capable of means the world to me. It’s really special.”

Moreover, her last podium finish arrived in Cortina, in Jan 2018. A series of injuries and surgeries had followed the skier around since then to ultimately lead her to present bottled excellence. So when she cheered, beating the odds, her team of known experience cheered alongside her.
