After retiring from his boxing career, Hafthor Bjornsson is currently preparing for his self-titled competition 2022 Thor’s Powerlifting Event, on 3rd December. The 34-year-old began his strongman career and later dominated multiple fields like powerlifting, boxing, and acting. In a recent video, Hafthor revealed his basketball favorites.

Hafthor Bjornsson is one of the greatest strength athletes of all time. He is the only strongman to win three prestigious titles – Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe’s Strongest Man, and the World’s Strongest Man in a single year.
Who are Hafthor Bjornsson’s basketball inspirations?
Hafthor is currently training rigorously in the gym to claim more titles in the upcoming competitions. During one of his training sessions, he shared a candid video about his day with his fans.

The strongman revealed the names of two NBA legends as his lifelong inspiration. He stated in the video;
“I actually like to listen to audiobooks and right now I’m listening to a book called Relentless, and it’s about this man that personally consults for like a lifting consult, nutrition consults for Kobe Bryant MJ and many other great great players in the NBA, and I’m always a big fan of basketball, a big fan of MJ and many others.”
Hafthor Bjornsson began his career as a basketball player. He was tall, having the perfect physique for a basketball player, and he began playing in men’s division teams in 2004. Soon after a season’s ten games, it was found that Hafthor had been playing with a broken ankle.
As a result, he went through surgery and made a comeback in one of the Icelandic clubs in 2006. However, he injured his ankle again in the same year. After his second surgery, he tried to play again between 2007 to 2008 but failed miserably. Eventually, Hafthor had to retire from basketball, transitioning into a career as a strongman.

How did Hafthor Bjornsson’s strongman career begin?
After recovering from his ankle surgery for the second time, Hartford started training in bodybuilding. Legends like Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates inspired him.

One day, four-time World’s Strongest Man Champion Magnús Ver Magnússon spotted him in the gym. He realized his potential of a great strongman. Eventually, Hafthor started participating in competitions, paving his way to a prolific strongman career.
