Simone Biles has been an icon of inspiration for the many looking up to the gymnastics star. The 26-year-old has stood to acclaim the best of the titles the industry has to offer. From 7 Olympic medals to being the most decorated gymnast ever, Simone Biles has only had coveted titles with every stride of hers. However, as she treads through her path with mouth-gaping feats, the gymnast has remembered to let her feet simmer on the ground.

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Simone encountered a situation any gymnast would dread; experiencing twisties. Though she stood on the remarkable stage, the youngster made sure to prioritize her health before she ventured any further. Her actions set a worthy example for the onlookers. Interestingly, that wasn’t the only time Simone stood up for her well-being, though it introduces a prime insight into the power her voice and vociferous stance holds and the strength it requires; leading her towards acknowledgment.

On November 8th, the Global Wellness Summit made a comeback for its 17th edition in Msheireb Downtown Doha, under the theme of “A Time of Transformation.” The event aims to bring together leaders and visionaries to shed a positive impact and, along the way, shape the future of the global wellness industry. Today, the event stepped ahead to honor someone well aligned well with its intent; Simone Biles. “GWS celebrates Simone Biles with Debra Simon Award for excellence in mental wellbeing,” a tweet updated.

According to the reports, the award was presented to Simone as a highlight of the steps she took in order to put forth her mental wellbeing. “It’s an honour to stand up here in my Mom’s memory and personally congratulate Simone. I thank you for being a trailblazer and a pioneer and for making wellness a priority in your life and setting an example for others. I promise that my Mother is cheering you on,” Lauren Wright, president of the Debra Simon Family Foundation, said. The award seemed a right fit for the gymnast who walked the gravel path to bear it all. She has bared it all emotionally and has escaped unscathed, despite what naysayers speak about her mental health and its repercussions.

Simone emerges victorious against negativity

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles faced a rather bizarre phenomenon called the Twisties. The conditions cause the gymnasts to lose awareness as they perform stunts up in the air. The athletes lack the knowledge of where they are; making it dangerous to land. Following the same, Simone withdrew from all events but two. Though she came back to win a bronze on the balance beam, her decision was criticized by the spectators.

One of them bashed the youngster, calling her ‘selfish’, and remarked that she had let the team down. However, Simone ensured to not let it affect her. In the following days, Simone took to her Instagram to exclaim how proud she was of her actions and that her current decision wouldn’t wipe out her past achievements. The icon wrote “the word quitter is not in my vocabulary,” letting the world know that it was okay to take the time off and prioritize oneself and their well-being.
