The athlete selection committee will pay close attention to each of the gymnast’s performances during the selection camp. On 19th September, that is, the first day of the camp will see the athletes competing on all four apparatuses for the all-around event. With the absence of Sunisa Lee, Simone Biles might have an easy chance of earning the title once again.

Lee declined to attend the camp because of her kidney problems and is focusing on her recovery, per sources. On the second day of the camp, there are Select Events scheduled, where as per the ASC’s rules, “athletes compete on a minimum of one event as requested by the Athlete Selection Committee (ASC).” The athlete may request to show events that the ASC does not request”. Other than the all-around winner, the committee will choose five other members for the team.

Simone Biles Ahead of the Major Event

Simone Biles will have an automatic berth on the World Team ahead of the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She has won the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships by almost four points and the 2023 US Hydration Core Classic by five points. Her victory at the 2023 Xfinity US Championship was historic. Biles broke the 90-year-old all-around national record set by former gymnast Alfred Jochim, upon winning her eighth national title. After breaking the record, the queen of gymnastics, Biles, shared a moment of bliss with her husband. Ever since their wedding in April, the two athletes have rarely spent time together.

Now Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are once again back at doing their own thing after a teary-eyed goodbye. The Olympic gold medalist is resolved to redeem herself at the 2024 Summer Olympics and could not be more focused on her training. She is on a mission to relive the glory of her previous victories, especially the one at the 2023 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships.

Simone Biles’ Performance at the 2023 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships

The seven-time Olympic medalist stunned the sold-out venue in San Jose with her incredible performance at the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships. It was just the second competition that Biles had taken part in since her return. She made it look like a cakewalk and cruised to a record-breaking win. However, just days before the championships, all hope seemed lost. Simone Biles was practicing the Yurchenko double pike vault just two days before the nationals and stung her ankle. However, she recovered in time and excelled in the other events.

On the first day of the Championships, Biles scored a solid 59.150 on the four apparatus. Her final two-day score was a staggering 118.450, edging out 2022 World all-around silver medallist Shilese Jones by four points. As she took the golden podium, the crowds rose to their feet to welcome the champion back. Simone Biles was taken aback and said, “It’s really amazing. Everybody in here believes in me, and my teammates believe in me, my coaches, my family, everyone”. Now that Simone Biles’ Olympics journey has begun with such a strong start, the expectations for her performance in the upcoming events are even higher.
