The Washington Capitals captain, Alexander Ovechkin, is eventually on the rise to be identified as the next Wayne Gretzky by most hockey fans globally. The hockey player’s top-notch performance over the years has finally begun to pay off. The 37-year-old finally hit the milestone recently by scoring his 802nd goal against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. On his career’s greatest moment, Ovechkin took the platform to thank his family.

Ovechkin fans long-awaited his historic goal. More specifically, the hockey player had his 800th goal on 13 December against Chicago Blackhawks in a 7–3 win. It got him a place amongst luminaries, Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe, as the third player in NHL history to reach the 800-goal milestone.

Alexander Ovechkin surpassed legend Gordie Howe’s 801 goals record by scoring 802 goals in an exciting match against Winning Jets on Friday. The 4–1 scoreboard on the game night surely made Ovechkin super happy for the team and himself. Having been able to recreate history in front of his fans and especially his family was a proud moment for him.

The NHL player wasted no time thanking his family when he was asked about his scoring history. He told WSH HOCKEY NOW, Very emotional.” Further, he added, “It’s special. They give me full support, and this is pretty big. It’s a historic moment. It’s nice to be in this category of players, it’s pretty cool.”

Moreover, on Ovechkin’s most special day, he was joined by his sons, his wife, Nastya, his brother Mikhail, and friends. His father and mother felt proud watching their son on television from home in Moscow, Russia. Ovechkin handed over his winning pucks that scored his 801 and 802 goals to his sons, Sergei and Ilya when he entered the dressing room. He also took a picture with the pucks and sons to celebrate the most memorable day of his career.
