NHL Star Connor McDavid Pays a Heartfelt Tribute to Oilers Superfan Ben Stelter With a Wonderful Gesture

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is currently winning hearts for his kind gesture. McDavid is one of the most potential players whose name may get inducted into the Hall of Fame. Recently, he made headlines for doing something highly noble for an Oilers superfan, Ben Stelter.

25-year-old Connor has been highly passionate about hockey since childhood. From a young age, he would play against older boys. Moreover, Connor was coached under his father. In 2015, he began to play under the Edmonton Oilers. Since then, Connor has continued playing with the team and eventually became the captain in 2016.

Although McDavid is an excellent player, his heartwarming gesture for the 6-year-old Oilers superfan is winning the internet.

What did Connor McDavid do for Ben Stelter?

The entire Edmonton Oilers team was very fond of their six-year-old superfan Ben Stelter. In many instances, the team was spotted with the little one. Captain Connor was also captured spending fun times with Ben, who was struggling with brain cancer.

However, the Oilers and the NHL fans were deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Ben on August 10. It was a huge loss for the Oilers as they would never see his glittering eyes while seeing them play.

Recently, on 9 December, Ben’s father Mike and Sarah announced a special fund in their son’s name, Ben Stelter Fund. The foundation aims to honor the life of free-spirited and courageous Ben Stelter along with helping children fight cancer.

On the commencement of the foundation, it received a whopping $100,000 as donations from Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Edmonton entrepreneur (and Stelter family friend) Ashif Mawji. Moreover, the Oilers captain also posted an adorable picture of Ben on his Instagram and captioned it;

“Join our fight to cure cancer. We’re pledging $100,000 to start the challenge. Donate and join the challenge – let’s fight cancer together and keep Ben’s legacy strong! (Link in bio)”

Ben’s struggle with brain cancer

Two months before his fifth birthday, Ben was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. The little one went through multiple surgeries and radiation to fight cancer. However, he could not fight the disease for a longer time. On 9 August 2022, his father announced his demise on Twitter, saying;

Mom and I are so proud of you. You had a bigger heart than anyone we’ve ever met. Our hearts are left with a Ben-sized hole in them and life will never be the same without you. We are absolutely crushed.”

As Oilers’ superfan, Ben would come to most of their matches. Moreover, they also gifted him with their game MVP helmet and jacket to wear.
