The reigning 100-meter world champion, Sha’Carri Richardson, is set to appear in her maiden competition of the 2024 season. She will be up against her Jamaican rival Shericka Jackson, with whom she lost the 100-meter dash at the Eugene, Oregon, organized 2023 Prefontaine Classic. The two have had an interesting rivalry so far, as Richardson got the better of the Jamaican prodigy at the 2023 World Athletics Championships as she stood atop the podium with the gold victory.
The recent announcement regarding one of the most anticipated showdowns between two track rivals has ignited excitement among fans, with the schedule for their season opener now revealed.
Sha’Carri Richardson and Jackson set for rematch
The two will be lined up against each other at the Miramar Invitational, which will be happening on April 6, 2024, at the Ansin Sports Complex in Florida. Miramar Invite has posted the update for the same on their website. Apart from Richardson and Jackson, runners like Ajeé Wilson, Twanisha “TeeTee” Terry, and the reigning 60-meter world champion Christian Coleman will also be there. Earlier in the day, there will be a preliminary round for the women’s 100 meters, and then there will be finals A and B later.

Richardson will now be looking to redeem herself after the Diamond League upset, with the latter event serving as the perfect opportunity for her to test her preparations before the 2024 Paris Olympics. On the other hand, Jackson will be aiming to maintain her momentum to pose a threat to her counterpart on French soil. The American and Jamaican duo have experienced everything each time they have faced each other on the track, reshaping the on-field rivalry for track supremacy between their nations.
When their paths crossed on the track
During the 2023 World Athletics Championship, these two athletes garnered significant hype and delivered exceptional performances. Day 3 witnessed the 100-meter finals, where the 23-year-old American Blazed through the Budapest arena and secured the numero uno spot with an incredible finish of 10.65 seconds, while Jackson placed second with 10.72 seconds on the clock and had to settle for a silver.
During the seventh day of competition, the 29-year-old Jamaican made a remarkable comeback in the 200-meter event, leaving no opportunity for others to challenge her, and secured a podium finish with a time of 21.41 seconds. Sha’Carri Richardson managed to finish third with 21.92 seconds and fell short to hit the individual sprinting double; however, the very next day she came with all the guns blazing and helped America win the 4×100 gold against the Jamaicans.
