Sha’Carri Richardson has been in terrific form of late. It started off with her win at the Miramar Invitational, which then proceeded to the Doha Diamond League, and most recently, at the Kip Keino Classic. While she was dominating the 200-meter event at the Kip Keino Classic, a peculiar incident occurred at a warmup track with tents posted in it.

From nowhere, a helicopter landed on a warmup track for athletes. The area was surrounded by tents, which were all torn and in disarray. Unfortunately, an athlete was rendered injured after the unannounced landing.

A tweet by Track and field reports went, “Someone tried to land their helicopter in the middle of the warmup track and blew off all the tents. One person was injured by a tent and taken to the hospital. Copter landings can be rough and more space is needed”. While the incident is getting a lot of heat for all the wrong reasons, it was, nevertheless, a serious matter.

The tweet mentions the injury of a person. Although their identity remains unknown, an injury brought on by a helicopter can presumably be very severe. Attached alongside the tweet was a small clip that captured the true extent of the chaos. Chairs, some of which were fallen to the ground; tents, whose cloth was torn in many areas; a goalpost, in the middle of it; and certain spectators sat scattered around the area after the damage.

While no further reports on this matter have come to light, the entire extent of the damage and as to why and how it happened, is still a mystery. But this did not derail the event, at any cost, and it certainly didn’t derail Sha’Carri Richardson from winning yet another race.

Sha’Carri Richardson seems to be in blazing-hot form, as she is on a record-breaking spree. She created a new world record in Qatar at the Doha Diamond League when she finished the 100-meters event in 10.76 seconds. She broke the previously held record of Tori Bowie at 10.80. At the Kip Keino Classic, Richardson chose to participate in the 200-meter and finished the race in 22.07 seconds. She was followed by Kyra Richardson (22.77) and Shannon Ray (22.82) at the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively. With her form at the moment, Richardson certainly seems to be a strong contender for Paris Olympics next year.
