Overshadowed and Cancelled by NBA, Noah Lyles Claps Back With Track and Field Wisdom Before Diamond League 2023 Final

“Somebody help this brother,” was Kevin Durant’s response to Noah Lyles’ comments on the NBA. This came after Noah Lyles sparked a debate due to his “world champion of what?” comment. Not only the NBA players but also the fans criticized Noah Lyles for his remarks on the National Basketball League. However, Lyles also did not hold himself back and cleared the air with his take on the debate.

Recently, while pulling off the curtains from his perspective on the NBA comment, Lyles shared various nooks and crannies around the scrutiny he received. Along with this, he also talked extensively about his career and records just ahead of this week’s Diamond League final.

On 13th September, Lyles appeared on an episode of the ‘I AM ATHLETE’ podcast hosted by former American football wide receiver Brandon Marshall. The title of the podcast read “Noah Lyles: “We [Track Athletes] Are Not Paid Attention To!”

Interestingly, from his vocation to his incredible win, Lyles covered all the avenues of his career and talked about his future plans. Nonetheless, at one point, the host intrigued if Lyles’ world championship wins got overshadowed by this NBA comment.

To this, Lyles replied, “I worked really hard for those three gold medals; I’m one of four men to ever do it.” He further added, “My mission in my sport actually is to transcend the sport and hopefully take it with me.” The sprinter then mentioned that nobody was hearing or seeing that it’s hard to do what he has done. He also added that he might not get noticed for his achievements, but he can take advantage of the situation.

He then highlighted his documentary that was released in August on Peacock ‘Untitled: The Noah Lyles Project’, his YouTube channel, and his participation in the upcoming events.

He then mentioned the upcoming Diamond League finals that are going to happen in Eugene. Interestingly, Marshall then asked him a question about his fashion statement in the event.

Lyles adds that he is competing in another track meet in the US. To this, Marshall asks, When and where is he competing? and he replies, Eugene, Oregon. This triple world champion also mentions the struggles of traveling to various places for the events.

He also mentions his American counterparts, Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman, who are also participating in various events, and people are eager to see them perform.

But how would people know that these athletes are performing in the US if there is no buzz, unlike in any other sport? For that, Lyles said marketing and targeting the right demographics are required.

Amid everything that goes on in the background, the triple world champion continues to strive for recognition in his sport. Despite his remarkable achievements, he feels overlooked, with the recent NBA controversy overshadowing his success.
