23-year-old Sha’Carri Richardson may have destroyed the 36-year-old Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce‘s hopes of a sixth women’s world 100m title, but the former heaped only praises to her competitor after a warm gracious hug at World Athletics Championships 2023. In fact, Richardson considers the 8x Olympics medalist Jamaican counterpart an idol. Her 16 world championship medals make her the closest to chasing Allyson Felix’s record of 20 world championship titles.

Fraser-Pryce is also a hero off the track. Last year, in honor of the Jamaican, her childhood school, The Penwood Church of Christ Early Childhood Institution in Kingston—was renamed the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Early Childhood Institution. Now, the 3x Olympic gold medalist has surprised the children at the school with an exciting gift.

In December 2022, the school’s name was successfully renamed in honor of the Olympic medalist. Fraser-Pryce’s sponsor Nike also helped her in this venture by committing US$100,000 while the Early Childhood Commission and Culture, Heart, Arts, Sport, and Education (CHASE) Fund helped the school with renovations. The renovations included new smart boards, and revamping the school kitchen and playground.

When the track star informed her fans on X last year about the renaming of her childhood school, she also tweeted, “They were like my second family; always there to support me way before I even knew I was going to become an elite athlete… so I’m giving back in as many ways as I can.”

Now, a recent tweet by Track Spice highlights that the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Early Childhood Institution has introduced new school uniforms for children. The tweet also includes a picture of the Olympian with a student wearing the new, blue-colored uniform with a badging that carries the school’s new name.

Fraser-Pryce herself regularly takes to X where she posts pictures of her school’s students and urges people to donate to different welfare and food programs run by the school. As far as the track is concerned, the Jamaican has suffered a host of injuries this year, which has restricted her from putting in the best performances. However, her recent Instagram posts suggest that she is prepared to rise again in Paris.

Jamaican track legend issues warning for Paris Olympics

The 2023 race season was somewhat difficult for Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. A number of injuries hampered her performances, but she still managed to add two more world championship medals to her trophy cabinet in Budapest.

Only a week ago, the Olympian shared a heartfelt Instagram post with her fans, wherein she thanked her medical staff for quickly tending to her injuries. She also expressed her love for her country which she claims is her backbone that helps her fight against all odds.

While discussing her injuries, Fraser-Pryce explained that she waits, plans, and comes back stronger after her injuries with her hard work. With the 2024 Paris Olympics just a year away, the Jamaican ended her post’s caption with,

“Every chapter, no matter how it reads, always leads us to better preparation and execution when again we rise. So, get ready Paris, here we come.”
