The biggest international indoor single-event athletics competition is approaching fast, and things look titillating. In 2023, the Mondo Classic started off the pole vaulting season with a blast and Armand Dupantis came ever closer to setting yet another world record. Now, with the second edition of the competition inching closer, track and field legend Sha’Carri Richardson took to social media to show her excitement to see the world’s best pole vaulters congregate once again in a thrilling show of gravity-defying stunts.

In the first edition, celebrity pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis invited some of his closest friends and competitors to the Mondo Classic in Uppsala, Sweden. As the 11 competitors displayed their best skills at Duplantis’ home arena, the host made the headlines by clearing the 6.10m mark. Now, Richardson, like many others, waits with batted breath to see what her friend has in store this time.

Hours after the first Instagram story by the Mondo Classic account, they once again shared the Olympian track and field juggernaut’s story, evidently appreciative of her support.

Along with Duplantis, fans will once again be treated to some of the best in the exhilarating sport of pole vaulting. Armand will once again be joined by fellow Americans KC Lightfoot, Sam Kendricks, and the Belgian Ben Broeders to treat the crowd with jaw-dropping spectacles.

The two Americans are the third and fourth in the world outdoor list of pole vaulters with their personal records standing at 6.07m and 6.06, respectively. The 2022 European Athletics Championships bronze medalist Pal Haugen Lillefosse will also be returning to the event after clearing 5.82m in 2023.

One take at a time

Growing up, I didn’t really have an interest in Olympic sports, but it was always something intriguing. As I found the means and the opportunity to explore its world, I found sports like volleyball, and track & field to be something that had tons to offer instead of just scoring through kills and sprinting toward the finish line. Whether it is Nebraska Huskers dominating the court or Noah Lyles maintaining his winning spree on the tracks, these two sports never fail to serve adrenaline rush to their spectators.
