Shaun White Reveals What His Emotional Mother Told Him After Winning His First Olympic Gold Medal

Undoubtedly, the legacy of Shaun White will remain untarnished, even after he retires, following the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. He has won three gold medals in his career and is currently aiming for another one in China. Indeed, he has come a long way. From his debut in 2000 to his last event in Laxx, he has performed really well in different competitions and put his name on top of the snowboarding charts.

As he nears the end of his illustrious career, he looked back on his first gold medal in Torino during the 2006 Winter Olympics. Notably, talking about his first gold medal, he remembered how his mother congratulated him.

Shaun White reveals what his mother said after his first Olympic victory

The sensational White put on an incredible performance in his first run. He performed two back-to-back 1080s and followed it with two back-to-back 900s. The gold medal was all but secured in his first run. Thus, his second run saw him on his victory lap, having fun, skidding snow to the crowd, and enjoying the moment. Reliving the moment now, White revealed what his mother said to him then.

“I won this competition with my first run out of two and got what’s called a “victory lap” I dropped in, did some big airs and sprayed snow into the crowd. I slid into the finish area where my family was waiting and I’ll never forget their faces crying with joy.”
