Watch: American Big-Wave Surfer Redefines ‘Tow Surfing’ With Incredible ‘Equestrian’ Twist

A multi-hyphenate surfer just upped his aqua game in his recent stint by riding foreign waves. Summertime sees the seaside transform into a popular getaway spot for water sports aficionados. The tribe stuck to tradition, but a pro surfer with a long list of victories wasn’t quite thrilled. Although ideal surfing waves should be sufficiently steep to produce speed without being too steep that it breaks too quickly, every surfer has distinct preferences.

As warmth enveloped the beautiful shores of  Hawaii, the Maui-born surfer migrated to another country to experience an adrenaline rush with a hint of spice. The surfer reveals the experience of his experimental proclivities in a recent video update of his experience.

Surfing meets equestrian adventure

Kai Lenny, a 30-year-old professional surfer attempted a fusion of foil surfing with horses. The famous YouTuber and social media personality recently uploaded a Youtube channel where he was riding the waves in Bali while his wife, Molly rode one of the two horses that pulled him across the shore. The chaotic, exciting, nerve-wracking action video lasted for five and a half minutes, sure inspiring a bunch of surfing fans.

The video began with a disclaimer that read- “No Horses were harmed in the making of this video. However, Kai may need a shoulder replacement lol.” Further, Lenny explained the process saying, “A tow rope gonna put it on the horse and the horse is gonna Gallop down the beach and I’m gonna hold on to the Rope.” In the beginning, it almost seemed like his arm was going to fall out of its socket until he found his balance and started riding like a pro.

The Maui-born was quite nervous despite his surfing triumphs, maybe it was the horsepower he added that caused him to sweat a little. While a jetski can accelerate up to 310 HP, Lenny held onto a connected rope with two horses, each pulling with an impressive 200 horsepower. His myriad daring pursuits are admired by his social media fans, who frequently take pleasure in the performances. A peak into surfing champion’s portfolio

Lenny’s portfolio is impressive with several participations and title wins. In his rookie year in 2012-13, he won many titles including Hawaii Island Finals SUP pro Winner and World SUP Race Champion in the first half. While in 2013, a lined-up SUP Race and Overall World Championship titles were won by him along with the title of Vice KSP Kiting World Champion. One of Lenny’s greatest feats to date came later in 2020 when he surfed a magnificent 70-foot wave to victory in the Nazaré Tow Surfing Challenge.

The pro surfer collaborates with many big brands like Nike, RedBull, Hurley, Oakley, GoPro, TAG Heuer, and Cariuma delivering well-documented videos of the sport. His surfing exploration includes kitesurfs, windsurfs, hydrofoils surfs, standup paddleboard surfs, and tow surfs among others.
