“I think it’s a situation that could happen in any sport, and it is a challenge that could happen in athletics. Just as it’s happened in swimming and cycling and weightlifting.”

The inclusion of Lia Thomas in the women’s category has given rise to huge debates on social media and other platforms. “We don’t want to exclude trans women from sport — it’s just making sure that the female category remains a level-playing field for female-born athletes. Being able to stand up for that doesn’t mean you don’t want people to express themselves in a way they feel comfortable,” he said.

Taking part in the 500-yard freestyle competition, Thomas won the race with a time of 4:33.24. This time is 9.18 seconds away from Katie Ledecky, but there are many arguments about her presence at the events. Thus, this controversy is reaching a global audience.
