It marked Ledecky’s fifth consecutive win at an event at the FINA World Championships. With this, she has achieved a feat that even the most decorated Olympian, Michael Phelps, could not accomplish at any of his meets.

During the event, Ledecky clocked in at 8:08.04 to clinch the gold. Australian swimmer Kiah Melverton secured the second position with a time of 8:18.77. Simona Quadarella from Italy came third after completing the event in 8:19.00.

Ledecky’s compatriot Leah Smith also competed in the event. However, she came fourth with a time of 8:20.04, trailing by more than 1 second behind Quadarella.

Following the victory, Kyle Sockwell tweeted about the moment. The tweet read, “No one in history had won 5 consecutive titles in the same event at the World Swimming Championships until Katie Ledecky made it 5 in a row today in the 800 freestyle.

She is without a doubt in my mind the greatest freestyler of all time,” the tweet continued.
