Former NFL Legend Reveals Miami Hurricanes’ Shocking Secrets Involving Ed Reed, Vince Wilfork, and More

The track and field realm is loved by so many, but it has a different connection with the NFL. So many players from the NFL, from the past and present, had a soft side for track activities. One of the most ideal examples of this is the former NFL player Clinton Portis. He is a former American football player for the Miami Hurricanes.

However, he was also a track and field enthusiast and a recent video of him speaks about it all. He shared an amazing story from the past that spoke about a prior experience in track with some of his NFL mates like Ed Reed, Vince Wilfork, and others. With this, he also shared some comments on the current track and field situation.

Clinton Portis was one of the renowned running backs in the Miami Hurricanes. Despite of being a staunch NFL player, he also had some interest in the track. He was a skillful track athlete for the Gainesville High School team. He clocked a time of 10.6 seconds in the 100 meters. Not just this, he was also a member of the varsity track team. Adding to this, the NFL player also ran track for the University of Miami and won the state championship in the 4×400-meter relay.

This track enthusiast was on the Barstool Sport’s podcast Pardon My Take. The Beau Throws shared a clip on their X account where Portis is seen talking about his prior track experiences. He spoke about being in the Big East Championships race and expressed how shockingly fast he and the NFL players with him were in this run. Not just this, he also added that currently there are more women doing the track and fewer guys, but it was different back then.

His other teammates Vince Wilfork was a shot put enthusiast, and Ed Reed was amazing in throwing javelin. He stated, “Half of our football team was on the track”. This is not different today as well, there are multiple track athletes who are now in the NFL.

The former track athletes now in the NFL

Multiple famous track names are in the NFL now and have gained commendable success. A background in athletics gives the players an upper hand for attaining excellence in the world of football. One of the names with a staunch background in the track is Tyreek Hill. This current Miami Dolphins player was once named the Track and Field News’ High School Athlete of the Year in 2012.

Some other athletes who changed their field of expertise are Devon Allen, Dominique Raheem Mostert, DK Metcalf, Marquise Goodwin, and many more. All these players still have a soft corner for the track. With their huge potential, they have now made a good mark in the NFL with their respective teams.
