Soon After Losing Her Mother to ALS, Lindsey Vonn Keeps Her Memory Alive With a Heartfelt Act of Love

Lindsey Vonn, the most decorated female alpine skier, published her first-ever memoir, ‘Rise: My Story’, in January 2022. She wrote about stories from her personal life, mental health struggles, and decisions that helped her rise to the top.

In a recent episode of ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’, Lindsey Vonn revealed that she dedicated the book to her mother. Vonn’s mother, Linda Krohn, suffered from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a cure-less disease that kills nerve cells, making it difficult for the person to walk, eat or speak.

Why Lindsey Vonn dedicated her book to her mother

In the interview, Lindsey Vonn was asked why she dedicated her book to her mom. She said, “I dedicated my book to my mom when I found out she had ALS, and I was going to dedicate it to her anyways, but she died only a few weeks ago.

Vonn opened up about how her mom had been her inspiration throughout life. The decorated skier also said that Krohn suffered a stroke while giving birth to her. The stroke caused her minor paralysis in the left leg that led to walking with a limp.

How her mother overcame some significant obstacles gave Vonn a perspective on her life and how to approach it. Vonn said, “Whenever I have a bad day, I look at my mom, and I say, well, she has a positive attitude, why can’t I?

The 37-year-old skier holds three Olympic Winter Games medals, and a record for 82 world cup wins. The retired skier spoke about her mother during her speech at the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

Vonn got emotional during the speech and said that her mother had taught her a lot about strength and character. She dedicated her Olympic Hall of Fame to Krohn and credited her mother for setting an example for her.
