Da’Myiah Pickens-Barton, a fellow cheerleader with the West Side Panthers, was remembered by her fellow team members for her excitement and vigour. The 9-year-old was killed in a drive-by shooting on Monday night in Silverton. She was in a home when gunfire started coming from outside. The gunfire that came from outside hit Da’Myiah with at least one shot that penetrated the house.

The local community will gather to remember a young life tragically taken in a drive-by shooting, celebrating the leadership and enthusiasm that defined the child’s all-too-brief existence.

“She was just a ball of energy. There was never a dull moment when you saw her. She was always happy,” said cheer coordinator Michelle McCollum. “When she gets here, she got the energy, and she’s ready to go.”

Silverton is a small, close-knit community and this type of violence is uncharacteristic and unacceptable. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the shooting.”
