California Cyclists Turning Heads in the Sporting World as They Aim to Raise $1 Million in 8 Days for a Noble Cause

Sports can bring people together. Whether united in support or opposition, sports are very effective in imbibing a sense of comradery in a group of strangers rather smoothly. In light of this fact, people undoubtedly get into scuffs with one another over differing sporting opinions. However, sometimes, quite the opposite. People can come together and participate to contribute to a noble cause. This is what will happen in the 3rd annual California Coast Classic Bike Tour, wherein two hundred cyclists will ride across 525 miles to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation.
Nearly 60 million Americans suffer from arthritis. Going by previous events, about 40% of the California Coast Classic riders either suffer from arthritis or are riding for a loved one with the disease.
How the California Coast Classic Helps

The California Gold Coast Classic is the Arthritis Foundation’s top fundraiser. It brings in $1 million every year that goes directly supports millions of Americans with the autoimmune disease. This year, at least 80 riders have confirmed they have arthritis. “We’re riding for our families, our friends, our co-workers, and we’re riding for cures,” said Arthritis Foundation CEO Steve Taylor. Taylor will participate in the first 3 days of the event.

Since 1948, the Arthritis Foundation has invested more than $500 million in research. Of this, over $22 million has come directly from the California Coast Classic. These funds contribute directly to programs that improve patients’ quality of life, and access to health care, as well as conduct research for better treatments.

The Gran Fundo has declared the tour to be the “Best Charity Bike Tour.” Meanwhile, Outside Magazine has named it one of “The 30 Best Road Biking Trips.”
Goals of the Arthritis Foundation

Americans pay about $305 billion in medical costs and lost earnings related to arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation aims to turn the obstacles faced by arthritis patients into opportunities. The organization champions life-changing solutions and medical advancements, and provides ways for people to connect. It also helps break down barriers in health care and unites us in finding a cure.
