Soccer referees have the toughest job in the world. It’s a tough job to control 22 players on the field. Most of the time, the referees have to make some strict decisions on the pitch. A recent video on Twitter has gathered a lot of attention because of a unique decision. The referee gives a direct red card to a player after a VAR review.

Although the video is only one minute long, it has already gathered 18.6 m views. The whole incident looked funny altogether. VAR helped the referee take the correct decision at the end.

Referee Gives Him a Direct Red Card

The video shows a match between Legia Warsaw and Cracovia from 2019. Two players could be seen going after a 50-50 ball. However, the player wearing the white jersey, William Rémy  fouls the other one. Rémy then stabs him on the back with his boots on. Initially, the referee shows the player a second yellow card and sends him off. However, after consultation with the VAR team, the referee goes and looks at the screen. In today’s modern football VAR helps in better decision making.

After reviewing the whole incident, the referee shocked everyone on the field. He called back William Rémy and cancelled the second yellow card.

He then issued a direct red card. Since, the player was already on a yellow card, that resulted in him getting a second yellow card. These kinds of events happen rarely in a football field.

VAR is used to reversing, any wrong decisions in the match. However, in this case, the whole scenario changed after the VAR check.

The team wearing a white jersey played the remaining match with ten men. However, after looking at the foul, the referee gave the right decision. The player literally kicked him in the back with his boots on. Such a type of behavior is not acceptable and needs to be punished. Hopefully, the injured player recovers quickly and helps his team.
