World No.5 Rafael Nadal announced quite a disheartening news when he decided to withdraw from the US Open 2021. He didn’t just withdrew from the Grand Slam but announced that he would be ending his 2021 season with immediate effect.
In such a situation, Rafael Nadal will be not be skipping just the US Open 2021, he will also not be playing at the upcoming Indian Wells Masters, Paris Masters, or at the ATP Finals 2021 in Turin.
All this is happening because Rafa is currently suffering from a foot injury. He injured his foot at the French Open 2021 and then decided to take a short break from the sport. Even though he returned at the Citi Open 2021, he was not fully fit and played despite the injury.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion is 35 now and thus, recovery might take some time before he turns fully fit. Although he failed to win a Grand Slam this year, he ended with an ATP 500 and a Masters title in 2021.

When and Where is Rafael Nadal planning to make a comeback to the court?
Rafael Nadal will now be back in action in the 2022 tennis season. Even though it is not confirmed right now, fans can witness the Spaniard at the ATP Cup 2022.
Rafa has a habit of not playing any lead-up tournaments before the Australian Open as he gets to play at the ATP Cup. However, he couldn’t feature at the tournament this year because of a back injury.

Nadal will be eyeing the Australian Open 2022 where he can make a successful comeback on the court. However, it won’t be a surprise if he decides to play an ATP 250 or 500 tournament, apart from the ATP Cup, to regain his form and momentum ahead of the Grand Slam.
