When asked about becoming the first-ever four-time MVP earlier this season at Aces’ media day, A’ja Wilson shared, “Every year I try to be better than I was the year before just to give myself a chance in this league. Because the league is getting better.” She wasn’t wrong. Even before the season tipped off, the WNBA was on track to reach new heights, with fresh talent quickly entering the MVP conversation. But experience speaks for itself, and with a couple of games left before the playoffs, it’s not Wilson but her fans who guarantee her fourth MVP! And they’ve got a reason too.

If you had seen Wilson’s name for MVP a couple of weeks ago, you might have felt the fourth MVP title wasn’t coming her way. But fast forward, and with the LV Aces on a winning streak, Wilson’s odds are now 11/2 (+550) to earn the honor. Just a couple of weeks ago, A’ja Wilson was a 25/1. Her case becomes even stronger after her showing against the Atlanta Dream. The win was expected, but Wilson didn’t just contribute to the team’s total—she roared right in the middle of the court!

32 points. 12 rebounds. 5 blocks. That’s exactly the stat line Wilson delivered to lead the LV Aces to their 8th win in a row. Yes, she’s putting up MVP numbers, but she isn’t just delivering—she’s consistent too. Her recent game also helped her surpass Brittney Griner and Candace Parker for the most career games (3) with 30+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 5+ blocks in WNBA history.

Well, if you ask GMs, about 25% already saw it coming, as they voted Wilson to win MVP this season when 2025 was about to begin. But, of course, putting up 30+ isn’t enough to win the accolade since the team record also plays an important role. That’s where Wilson has elevated her impact. Over the last eight games, she’s averaging 26.9 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, while also helping the Aces climb to the fifth-best record in the league. Impressive, right?

Fans have their favorite for MVP ready!

As usual, fans, impressed by Wilson’s performance, started a debate. “A’ja Wilson in August ߐ 25.0 PTS 12.2 REB 2.8 AST 1.4 STL 1.7 BLK PER GAME. Aces are surging. And so are her chances of winning a 4th MVP,” penned a user on X. And you cannot blame anyone because Wilson is a true MVP. Ever since Kelsey Plum left the Aces’ roster, she’s had the responsibility of the team on her shoulders. But that’s something Wilson’s used to. As per I Talk Hoops, ever since she entered the W, no other player has scored more points, grabbed more rebounds, won more MVPs, and claimed more DPOYs.

“A’ja is HELL … if she isn’t the MVP then why even have an award,” penned another user. True that, because even last year Wilson won the award as only the second player to be named a unanimous MVP in league history—the first being Cynthia Cooper in 1997 as part of the former WNBA team, the Houston Comets. And if Wilson bags the honor again, she could join Cooper again as the only players in league history to win back-to-back MVPs. Cooper won in 1997 and 1998.

And now it seems she’s about to add even more to her record-setting career. And Becky Hammon is doing what she does – raising the bar for her. “What I see is she went and got better, which is hard to do when you’re already the best. But it speaks to her work ethic, her desire, and her mindset this offseason,” the head coach shared during media day before this season.

Have an interesting take?

“Sorry, Phee… A’ja may have snatched the lead in the MVP race,” penned another user. Yes, Napheesa Collier, aka Phee, whom WNBA GMs voted the favorite before the season began, giving her 67% of the votes. Even last year, Collier, the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, finished second in MVP voting. This year, she has been leading the betting odds since the start, after scoring 34 points in the season opener to set a record.

“Napheesa Collier when she finds out that A’ja Wilson’s trying to take her MVP trophy this season:” penned another user. No doubt, Phee is elite, but as of now, she’s ruled out for the upcoming game against the NY Liberty due to an ankle injury. And that gives Wilson a chance to climb up, and she’s been doing just that. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year powered the Aces to a perfect 3-0 week to become the Western Conference Player of the Week 11.

“A’ja saw ppl say other names for MVP and did this,” penned another user. So while everyone’s got Wilson atop their MVP list, she’s not running the race to challenge Phee alone. The “silent assassin” from the Fever, Kelsey Mitchell, is also making her case. That became clear after her last performance, when she scored 38 points while the Fever’s roster was thin due to Sophie Cunningham’s season-ending injury. But it’s not just about one game—Mitchell’s been called MVP by her teammates for a reason. Just consider this: she recently passed Tamika Catchings for the most career 30-point games in franchise history. That’s how dominating Mitchell really is! So what do you think? Will Wilson be able to win her fourth MVP?
