The WNBA season is deep into Playoffs which has brought the highest intensity. But the Regular Season was a treasure trove of action too. We saw the New York Liberty and the Las Vegas Aces dominate everyone. We saw the Connecticut Sun push forward without care, even without Brianna Jones. Therefore, the MVP conversation came down to the superstars of these teams. For the Liberty perennial candidate, Breanna Stewart did her usual thing. Meanwhile, for the Aces, A’ja Wilson was a force on both ends of the floor. Alyssa Thomas is unarguably the most dominant All-Around player and is just too physical for the rest of the competition.

The WNBA announced that Stewart has taken the crown this season. Did Wilson and Thomas get snubbed here?

This is the second time that the incredible Forward has earned the honor. The scoring machine won it in 2018 as well. This was the season when she also won the championship and nabbed the Finals MVP award. This season, she posted eye-popping averages of 23 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists. 1,6 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game. Teaming up with Sabrina Ionescu, Courtney Vandersloot, Betnijah Laney, and Jonquel Jones, she carried the Liberty to the second-best 32-8 record.

Meanwhile, A’ja had 22.8 points, .9.5 rebounds, league-leading 2.5 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game. For her stifling effort on the non-glamorous end, she carved out a second straight Defensive Player of the Year Award. Her Aces had the best record of 34 wins and six losses, despite an injury to Candace Parker. These numbers surely scream MVP, but Stewart earned the nod.

Perhaps the most persuasive case belongs to Alyssa Thomas. After Jonquel Jones went to the Liberty and Brionna Jones picked up the injury, the workload on her was too heavy. Was she robbed of a great opportunity?

Thomas reeled in 15.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, 7.9 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Although her scoring numbers are inferior to Stewart and Wilson’s, she did a lot with less and was ahead in other spheres. With a superstar departing and a key inside player missing, she carried the team on the back. Thanks to DeWanna Bonner’s consistency, she led the team to an unexpected 27 wins and 13 losses.

The case for Thomas is strong because she faced much more adversity. She doesn’t have perimeter shooters like Plum, Gray, Ionescu, Vandersloot, and Laney. However, fittingly, she defeated the Liberty in Game 1 of the Semis. Overall, while Stewart’s claim to MVP is not weak at all, Wilson and Thomas were strong contenders too.
