Belinda Bencic made sure the Swiss flag flew high at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Belinda had an absolutely breathtaking run in Tokyo where she grabbed the gold medal in the women’s singles event, defeating Marketa Vondrousova in the final. Along with that, she also grabbed a silver medal in the doubles event partnering with Viktorija Golubic.
Following her achievements at Olympics 2020, she revealed the support she received from her compatriot, Roger Federer. Bencic said that Federer encouraged her a lot throughout her Olympic run, and especially before the nerve-wrecking final match.

On her path to the Olympic gold, Bencic defeated some of the top names in women’s tennis like Barbora Krejcikova and Elena Rybakina.
In the finals, she faced Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic. Both the players looked fearless as the match went to the deciding set. However, Belinda Bencic dominated the third set right from the start to clinch the victory and claim an incredible Olympic gold medal.

Bencic is forever grateful for all the support she has received from Federer and also dedicated this victory to him. Unfortunately, the maestro himself has never won an Olympic gold medal in his career.

Bencic withdrew from Indian Wells
After having a good run at the US Open, Bencic’s latest tournament was the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. She advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition, where she faced Elena Rybakina.
Unfortunately, Bencic suffered a knee injury during the match and had to give Rybakina a walkover in the second set itself. Since then, the Swiss has pulled out from all the WTA tournaments, including the ongoing BNP Paribas Open.
