There are many athletes who give the impression at a very young age that they will become the best in their fields one day. Such child prodigies are very hard to find, but they do exist. ESPN analyzed five such players who were exceptional in their childhood and ranked them. Interestingly, former World No. 1 Serena Williams also finds a place on the list.
Both Venus Williams and Serena Williams have been phenomenal since their childhoods. The two took inspiration from their dad Richard Williams, who guided and supported them throughout their journey.

In the video, one can see the renowned TV host and sports journalist, Mike Greenberg, recalling an incident involving the two sisters. He said that when Venus Williams burst on to the scene, she had had an interview where she had said that her younger sister, Serena, was even better than her. Venus’ words seem to have come true, since Serena is the holder of 23 Majors, and is just one shy of equalling Margaret Court’s all-time record.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner has been a brilliant player since the age of 10 and thus, is a child prodigy. Interestingly, she out passes legends like LeBron James, Wayne Gretzky, and Ken Griffey Jr. who too are magnificent sports prodigies.
Tiger Woods beats Serena Williams to be No. 1 on Green’s list
Without any hesitation, the No. 1 child prodigy, according to Greenberg, was Tiger Woods. He claimed that Woods played golf at the age of three on The Mike Douglas Show. Tiger was hitting the balls quite well and had no fear even though he was just 3-years-old at that time.
Greenberg mentioned that Woods was winning drive pitch and putt competitions at the age of six. So far, Woods has won 15 majors in golf and has completely revolutionized the sport just like Serena.
